What We're Working On (a.k.a. WIPs):

What We've Finished (a.k.a. FOs):

What We Couldn't Resist (a.k.a. Stash Enhancement):

  • Dana got lots of fun yarn during the road trip (click here to see all of it!). Most of it was for a Find Your Fade Shawl. The picture below shows the final selections in the order they will be used in the shawl. She also picked up an awesome crewel embroidery kit of an adorable sleeping kitty (which you can get here). See below for a snapshot of my small start on the embroidery!

  • Kristi purchased a set of planet stitch markers from Wanda at Silly Sheep Designs. Kristi also purchased a shawl pin from Gen at Ridiculously Cute. Kristi won a prize of sparkle yarn in the coral reef colorway and a Knitter's Pride needle Sampler for a KAL from Maylin at Tri'CoTerie. Kristi also went to Charlotte Yarn for the launch of their in house line of yarn called Ava Lu. She bought 2 skeins of sparkle yarn and a third skein of Junkyarn which is also created by a NC dyer.

All the gifts <3

As Kristi's departure for Denver loomed large, many of her wonderful friends gave her some thoughtful and generous gifts. Susan gave her a gorgeous crocheted hat and a lovely skein of Miss Babs Yowza in the Joan of Arc colorway. Our good friend Amy asked Wanda to make some crafty hive stitch markers and gave us each a set! Kristi's friend Loretta generously shared a bunch of her yarn crawl winnings with Kristi. Some of the ladies Kristi's knits with in Gastonia got her some lovely gifts including a special yarn colorway by Crystal at Mythic Cache Fibers, Kristi's favorite loose leaf tea, and handmade goodies like project bags and stitch markers. Kristi's really good friend Jenny sent her a package of yarny and nerdy goodness from Stitches Midwest. The package even included 2 confetti poppers for Kristi to celebrate leaving her old place and arriving at the new one! Last but definitely not least is the amazing box of road trip goodies that Wanda sent. Kristi forgot to take a picture of everything opened because she was happily weeping, but there are amazing treats like a road atlas, mad libs, a hiking bag and water bottle, stitch markers, pins, lollipops. I'm blown away by the love my friends have shown me at a very stressful point in my life. I can't thank you all enough!

Episode 6 - Experimental Dyeing

Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for Episode 6.

This week Dana and Kristi are announcing the winner of the Shalimar Yarn giveaway! WOOHOO! We'll also be discussing our WIPs and FOs and any holiday gift making we might be doing (or planning to do!).

Dana set a lofty goal of finishing four WIPs before recording the next episode. Hopefully that helps keep things on track! Kristi will be periodically harassing Dana with text messages to keep her on track.

As a topical experiment for this episode, Dana and Kristi decided to dye sock blanks! We'll talk about our "plans" and some lessons learned, but all in all it was a fun crafty experiment.

Here is a link to Kristi's sock blank (explicit language warning, lol). Here is a link to Dana's sock blank

What We Couldn't Resist (a.k.a. Stash Enhancement):

  • Dana picked up Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool in "79 Thundercloud" and "109 Medium Gray", specifically to knit the Mountain Range sweater by Natalie Meredith (check out her other awesome sweaters!). Some Zitron Trekking XXL in "500 Pinks" made its way home with her as well.
  • Kristi received her order of Birch Fire from Witch Candy Yarn. This yarn is magical.
Kristi also picked up a sweater quantity of Araucania Huasco and a couple skeins of Noro Taiyo Sport from Baskets of Yarn during their retirement sale.
Sheena at Casual Fashion Queen has a youtube podcast and hosted a Halloween Craftalong. Kristi won this gorgeous skein of yarn and ordered a second one because it's PERFECT for the Maple Leaf Shawl Kristi is in love with.
  • Kristi is VERY excited that she got her handspun from Dana as a payback for buying lunch on the yarn crawl. It's BEAUTIFUL!
  • Kristi would like to give a few special shoutouts for some gifts she received!
    • Cassie who is 58r8nity on Ravelry gifted her the On the Spice Market pattern by Melanie Berg as part of the Gift 1 Get 1 #knitterspayitforward movement. Thanks Cassie!
    • Kristi received a random act of pattern kindness on her birthday from Tiffany who is TheProjectBag on Ravelry. Tiffany was looking through projects for the faerie's firelight pattern and saw the birthday icon next to Kristi's name. She went to Kristi's wishlist and gifted her the Razzle shawl pattern. Thank you for the kindness Tiffany!
    • Amanda also known as mrsahunter86 on Ravelry sent Kristi the Venti pattern as a birthday gift. This is another beauty from her wishlist. Thank you Amanda!

Episode 5 - All About That SAFF

Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for Episode 5.

This week Dana and Kristi are discussing their SAFF adventures and purchases. Due to the volume of SAFF related chatter, we'll only be quickly touching on WIPs and FOs.

We were so excited that Jenn Sheelen mentioned us on her podcast! Thank you Jenn for the kind words. Please go give her podcast a watch and check out her shop as well.

We are super excited to announce our very first giveaway! We picked up a lovely skein of Shalimar Yarns SAFF 2016 colorway "Sassy French Broad" on the Equus base. Details on how to enter the giveaway are given in the episode.

  • It was a struggle, but Dana managed to find a couple of things she liked at SAFF.
Here is the yarn and fiber (all the fiber!)
Her baby Turkish spindle and the Calculus spindle were from Snyder Spindles (Ok fine, it's actually an F-hole spindle, but it's still a math spindle in my book)
The lovely Stag project bag came from Twist Fiber Studio
The awesome Super Mario notions pouch and the Legend of Zelda project bag came from Sew Flo

Episode 4 - And Then There Were Two

Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for Episode 4.

This week we announce, with heavy hearts, that Corinna has had to make the decision to stop podcasting due to work and life obligations. While we'll miss her greatly, we support her decision to focus on juggling a busy work/life schedule, and she will be welcomed back as a guest any time she likes.

In addition to our usual WIPs and FOs chatter, we also have a few special stash enhancements to talk about. We discuss a recent craft night in which we experimented with needle felting kits in preparation for planning our SAFF wish lists. In that segment, we talk about how successfully we were able to complete the projects and whether or not we would try these types of kits in the future.

Episode 3 - Squishy Passion

Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for Episode 3.

Corinna is back and she has a new craft room! The holiday season is drawing near, so this week we discuss our thoughts on gift knitting: the good, the bad, and the unappreciated. In addition to our regular segments, we help Corinna pick her next sweater in "What Should I Make?". And find out why we named this "Squishy Passion."

All of our show notes are given below, with information and links to what we discussed in this episode. Let us know if you can't find any information you need.

As always, we would love to hear from you!

Do you like to make gifts for others? How do you decide who is "knit-worthy"? Have you had a bad gifting experience?

What Should I Make?

This week Corinna is trying to choose between the following two knitting projects:

We recommended that, since Corinna wanted something more challenging than miles of stockinette stitch, she should knit the Recoleta. Plus, the color would be great to wear in the spring!

Hello, and welcome back! We're so glad you've joined us for episode 2.5.

Dana and Kristi discovered that they really have a lot to say when it comes to big yarn purchases! We decided to add a special Episode 2.5 continuation of the Yarn Crawl conversation because we could not contain our fiber enthusiasm. Episode 2 - Crawling for Yarn

Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for Episode 2.

This week will be a little departure from our usual format. Corinna is busy moving, so Dana and Kristi discuss their Yarn Crawl stash enhancement. There's a lot of that! We have a few WIPs and FOs to mention, but the bulk of this episode will be spent ooohing and aaaahing over our new purchases.

Like most of you, we have full time jobs. So, in order to be able to fully participate in the Yarn Crawl, we decided to go hard for the opening weekend.

The Mission: 10 yarn shops in 2 days.

We had the opportunity to have a few friends join us at various points of the crawl, and it was a lot fun! Below is a list of the shops we went to:

  1. A Tangled Yarn Shop, Denver, NC

  2. Foothill Fiber Arts, Statesville, NC

  3. The Needlecraft Center, Davidson, NC

  4. Knit One, Stitch Too, Huntersville NC

  5. Cottage Yarn, Mint Hill, NC

  6. Tangles Knitting on Main, Waxhaw, NC

  7. Things Remembered Custom Framing and So Much More, Gastonia, NC

  8. Baskets of Yarn, Charlotte, NC

  9. Charlotte Yarn, Charlotte, NC

  10. The Fibre Studio at Yarns to Dye For, Charlotte, NC

Note: We had lots to talk about this week, so we've split this episode into two parts. The second part (Episode 2.5) will just be the second part of the yarn crawl discussion, and will not have other segments like WIPs, FOs, etc.

All of our show notes are given below, with information and links to what we discussed in this episode. Let us know if you can't find any information you need.

Episode 1 - All Things Denim

Welcome to Episode 1! Thank you for giving us a listen.

This week we discuss how we like to plan for shopping at special events such as yarn crawls or festivals, which is quite timely since we have two such events drawing near. We also have our regular segments, and we help Kristi with some decision paralysis in "What Should I Make?".

All of our show notes are given below, with information and links to what we discussed in this episode. Let us know if you can't find any information that you need.

As always, we would love to hear from you! Did you like the episode? Which project did you think Kristi should knit next? What do you want us to talk about next? This week Kristi is trying to choose between the following two knitting projects:

We decided that at this time of the year, it would be easier on Kristi’s fragile brain to work on the van Gogh shawl and save the Giggle with a Jiggle shawl for after the holidays. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
